Loot boxes have been a popular topic for a while now. The controversy is that these loot boxes can be considered gambling and addicting for gamers to keep purchasing units in hopes that they obtain their desired item. If you’re unfamiliar with the term loot boxes, these are in-game items that provide players with a randomized purchase. Essentially you could purchase a loot box in hopes to get a specific skin or weapon for it to only spit out something you may have already own or significantly cheaper than the desired item.
As a result, its become a controversial topic that’s even hit court cases so its something to keep an eye on as time goes by. At any rate, one game that is sure to avoid the controversy as best as possible is Gears 5. The fifth main installment to the Gears of War franchise is currently in development by The Coalition. Alerting their fans through the official website for Gears 5, the development team stated that the upcoming title will be rather fair for everyone.
Noted in the website, earning content is going to be done essentially by playing the game. Gear Packs, which were something that could be purchased in Gears of War 4 is officially gone. Alongside it is season passes so that means that Gears 5 will not have a season pass, Gear Packs, any and all DLC maps will be free and if you wish to purchase from the in-game marketplace it will be direct. That means there is no randomized option for gamers to jump through hoops in order to get a specific item.
This is likely something that will be pleased by gamers worldwide when Gears 5 finally does launch. For those interested, Gears 5 will be available on both Xbox One and PC this September 10, 2019.
