Microsoft’s Game Streaming Service Project xCloud Will Have Public Trials This Year

March 13, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Microsoft moving forward with Project xCloud this year.

Microsoft recently revealed its latest venture known as Project xCloud which will essentially provide the same overall concept that Sony has been giving consumers with PlayStation Now. With that said, Microsoft is looking to offer more potential coverage as to what gamers can use the service on. Instead of just console and PC platforms, it looks as if Microsoft is attempting to bring its game streaming service to smartphones as well. This service was previously revealed last year and now that some time has passed, it looks as if Microsoft is ready to really start testing this feature out.

There are still a lot of questions left unanswered but public testing may be rolling out this year. In a Tweet sent out by Microsoft’s Xbox account, we get a clip dedicated to Project xCloud. Within this clip, we are shown a demo of the service running on a smartphone and playing Forza Horizon 4. Connected via a wireless Xbox One controller, the demonstration shows Forza Horizon 4 running flawlessly, but in a controlled environment, it’s tough to say just how well this service will actually work out.

We won’t have to wait too awful long as the demo does confirm that public testing is coming out later this year. No further details were given such as how someone can jump onto the public trials or if there are any limitations to devices. Regardless, it will be interesting to see just how well the service holds up when gamers around the world are able to jump online and try Xbox One exclusives on devices like a smartphone.

For now, we have to wait and see just what Microsoft reveals. This service will likely be present in some form or another during E3 of this year. We’ll, of course, keep you updated on the very latest news right here on Gameranx.
