The ability of players to transfer save files from one game to another has been a key part of both the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises and it seems BioWare are set to continue the tradition with Dragon Age: Inquisition.
BioWare producer Cameron Lee told a PAX Australia panel that "We know what we want to do. It [save files] will absolutely come across – your decisions carry [over and] will matter."
It seems BioWare are developing a workaround for the PS4 and Xbox One's incompatibility with saves from earlier systems with writer Patrick Weekes adding "The goal is that you can have an equally rich experience no matter which platform you're playing on."
This could be seen as hinting at an interactive prologue but hopefully next-gen system owners will be able to take their saves over to Inquisition.
Community manager Chris Priestly, who's leaving BioWare at the end of the month, reminded fans that while Mass Effect revolves around an individual, Commander Shepard, Dragon Age revloves around the world of Thedas.
"There will absolutely be some ties to some of the previous games, maybe some of the books or that sort of thing that you'll recognise if you've played the previous games, but they're not going to be reliant on the previous games."
Meaning newcomers to the series won't be missing out too much.
The panel said that while questions concerning the return of Dragon Age: Origins' Warden were "good", they refused to directly address them.
Details surrounding the game's dialogues and story were also revealed at PAX Australia and at the panel Weekes said he hopes people buy CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and that both games have room to exist despite being fantasy RPGs both being released in 2014.
Inquisition is set for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC in Autumn next year.
