The Witcher 3 Dev: I don’t think we are taking too much advantage of the PS4’s GDDR5 RAM

The Witcher 3 is arguably one of the most gorgeous video games currently in development for the next-gen platforms, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As well as the PC, the game is slated to make the most out of the systems it will be released on and push the boundaries of graphical fidelity.

In an interview with GamingBolt, environmental artist Jonas Mattson of CD Projekt RED talked about some of the technical aspects of The Witcher 3. Among the subjects that were covered was the game's utilization of the PlayStation 4's 8 gigs of GDDR5 RAM.

When quizzed as to whether the game would be able to push the game "a bit more" on the PlayStation 4 compared to the Xbox One, Mattson replied that he didn't think the game was taking too much advantage of the edge offered by the PS4.

"As you are aware am an environmental artist but we have talked about this in the office," he said. "I don’t think we are taking too much advantage of it. But as I said I am entirely not sure about this as I deal with making the world pretty."

Mattson and the interviewer spent the rest of the time discussing his work on the creation of The Witcher 3's environments, with far more lucid answers. Here's a snippet:

"I worked on the ruins a lot and it was really nice to work on them, because you have the mountains and valley behind it. I am not going to spoil it but there is a valley there, river leading out and it really gives you a grand view of it. It basically makes the player say wow. The ruins are located higher and you can see all those valleys. Even when the player is fighting a fiend and being attacked it still pushes the player to check it out. For me the composition, all the mountains and everything comes together and really makes it beautiful."
