New RPG Chronos Materia by Gust coming to PS Vita

June 26, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Atelier and Ar Tonelico developer reveals new IP

chronos materia

The latest issues of Famitsu and Dengeki Playstation have revealed developer Gust is releasing a new RPG for the Playstation Vita called Chronos Materia. Unsurprisingly, the game's story and mechanics will revolve around the concept of time. The game will make it easy to come back to earlier parts of the game and play again and again.

The central character is a girl named Iris, who is transported with several other children into a world that does not have any humans or experienced civilization. All the characters' names are based on plants and their designs were handled by Vocaloid artist Osaka Nozomi, who has also worked on Nichijo, K-ON!, and Chrome Shelled Regios.

Famitsu also revealed voice actors and descriptions for the game's characters. Iris, an aspiring alchemist, will be portrayed by Yuka Aisaka. Primula will be voiced by Yoshiko Ikuta (Mawaru Penguindrum). Yuka Watanabe (Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl) will be voicing Thyme and Toshi Fukamachi will be the voice of Shion.

The Vita has been struggling in sales since it had a solid launch on December 17, 2011. It first saw a surge in Japan following a much needed price cut and a new batch of high profile games, including Soul Sacrifice, early this year. Sales numbers continue to fluctuate as each popular game, often Japan-only, gets released to usually warm sales. Chronos Materia is expected to follow this trend as a high profile RPG with solid production values.

Gust is best known for the RPG franchises Atelier and Ar Tonelico. Chronos Materia will be available this coming September 26, for ¥ 6.090. A more recent RPG, Atelier Escha & Logy will be coming to the PS3 this Thursday.

We last reported on an Atelier Game as Project A14, later revealed to be Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk.
