In news that makes you think, “Why on earth hasn't someone done this already?”, a team of developers – sorry, “seasoned video game industry veterans” – has announced that it is creating “the world's first erotic virtual reality adventure”. The game is called Wicked Paradise, and it will use the Oculus Rift to provide the player with a virtual-reality erotic experience.
Here's the elevator pitch from the website:
“Imagine playing Leisure Suit Larry but instead of watching a screen, you are inside the game.
Imagine the world and its inhabitants look highly realistic.
Imagine walking into a bar in Wicked Paradise, noticing a beautiful lady, talking to her, and seducing her.
Imagine playing your cards right and having passionate wild sex with her.
Imagine all this in high quality, immersive virtual reality.”
I'm guessing you have to play as a heterosexual male.
In an article over on Kotaku, Jeroen Van den Bosch – one member of the studio working on the game – is quoted as saying that previous attempts to make a good erotic game have been “ridiculously bad”:
“We have hundreds of beautifully crafted shooter games but not a single well designed erotic video game.”
In fact, Van den Bosch thinks that the sex scenes in the Mass Effect games are more erotic than any actually explicit adult games have managed. Promisingly, he thinks this is because you care about the characters in Mass Effect, though that seems counter to the fantasy described above in which you wander into a bar and convince a beautiful stranger to have “passionate wild sex” with you.
Does this sound like the kind of game you'd play?
