There’s nothing better than a good rivalry, which has been exemplified through the bout between the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises. The two leading first-person shooters have been battling for market share annually over a good portion of this console generation, and this year will be one of the biggest tests as we enter the next generation of hardware. One of the most-discussed (mainly through GIFs) reveals at the recent Xbox One briefing by Microsoft was the introduction of a loyal canine companion in Call of Duty: Ghosts, which will act as one of the key emotional devices for the blockbuster shooter. It’s an interesting addition to the machismo campaign, but the Battlefield team doesn’t seem to be too impressed with its competitor.
Whoever is running the official Battlefield Twitter account is really the one who isn’t taking the Call of Duty dog too seriously, as a Tweet posted earlier today has created a new furry friend to rival the work of Infinity Ward. Say hello to Caspter the Battlecat, who’s pictured above and “still looking good in his official BF3 tags.” Maybe not the most creative move, but hey, at least they’re trying.
Jokes aside, it will be an interesting battle as we approach the holiday season. Both franchises are well known for their highly addictive multiplayer components, and it looks as if DICE has plenty of smart ideas for Battlefield 4’s competitive modes. With both games launching on current and next-gen hardware, it really feels as if it’s anyone’s game this fall.
