Little Nightmares: The Residence DLC – Puzzle Solutions Guide | Full Walkthrough

February 26, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

The diabolical residence of The Lady is a pretty mysterious place. Here’s how to solve all the puzzles with our complete walkthrough.

Welcome to The Residence, the third and final DLC chapter for Little Nightmares. Here, we’re going to put special focus on how to solve each puzzle — the spooky library where this chapter takes place is filled with strange contraptions you’ll have to figure out to progress. It can get pretty tricky, so we’re breaking up the full walkthrough into distinct sections for each puzzle solution.

The Residence itself is the final chapter in the Kid’s journey through the Maw. After navigating the engine room, you’ll find yourself stuck on the roof of an elevator. The path ahead leads to a spooky home where the Lady of the Maw lives. The Lady is host to the strange, gorging  guests that make a brief appearance here — but there are more horrors to navigate. Keep your flashlight close, kid.

Right as you wake up, climb the ladder-like metal wall on the left, and jump (and swing!) to the tiny window in the top right corner to escape the elevator and enter the Residence proper through the tiny crack in the foreground.

Dropping into the sitting room, progress right down the hallway and start sneaking when the camera pans over to the Lady herself, looking in the mirror. You don’t want to disturb her! If you do, it’s a quick death for the kid. Take note of the big key in the Lady’s parlor. You’ll need it for later.

Sneak past the Lady (turn off your flashlight!) to enter the central location for this chapter — this is the Residence, a three-story mansion with two rooms on each floor. The goal is in the first floor right room — there are three tiles with three shapes. You’ll need to find three statues and place each on the proper shape to unlock the exit door.

Use the button and switch to shine lights in all three eyes.

The Eyes & Lights Puzzle

The first puzzle you can actually complete is on the top floor. Push the ladder near the portrait right so you can climb up. Jump and pull down the large switch to the left to activate the bright light on the device in the center.

You can manipulate the device with the crank and the button. Push / pull the button to set which axis you want to adjust, then press the button to actually move the glass. Move the switch all the way to the left to turn the entire device — all three glasses. Your goal is to make all three lights shine into the three brass eyes near the ceiling.

To do that, keep turning and adjusting until the three glasses are pointed up — at about a 75 degree angle. That’s about as high as they’re going to go. When all three are aligned with each other, turn the entire mechanism to face the eyes. When all three eyes are closed, this puzzle is almost complete.

To finish the puzzle, go right and activate your flashlight, shining the light into the eye on the right door on the third floor. This will cause the door to open.

Push the buttons under the lit-up portraits shown above.

Pick the Correct Portraits

In the right-hand room on the third floor, you’ll encounter a room filled with portraits with buttons underneath. To complete this puzzle, press the buttons under the portraits that appear in the previous room — if you press a button under a portrait that does not appear in the collage, you’ll fail the puzzle and have to restart.

From left to right, press these buttons: 2, 3, 4, 6, 8

Push the proper buttons and the door will open.

Hide under the pedestal after grabbing the statue.

The First Statue

The first statue is found after the portrait puzzle. After picking up the statue, quickly drop down behind the pedestal to avoid the eye’s gaze. Run from shadow-to-shadow and throw the statue at the button to the left of the exit door to escape. You’ll want to exit out the same door you came in.

Use the elevator on the third floor to go down to the second floor, then take the stairs to the first floor statue room. Place the statue on the triangle tile and you’re on your way to the second statue.

The trickiest book is located on the top of the shelf in the library.

The Library Books

For the second statue, enter the small library room on the second floor, right side. To solve this puzzle, you’ll need to find three books and place them in three matching sets in the bookcases. Doing that will unlock a secret door.

  • Circle: Place the green circle book, located on the front-right side, into the set on the shelf in the front-right corner of the library.
  • Diamond: Place the orange diamond book in the center of the library into the back-left shelf, just to the left of the red triangle set.
  • Triangle: The red triangle set is the most obvious, in the center-back of the library. The book itself is trickier to get. Move the ladder near the entrance to climb up to the top of the shelves and you’ll find the last book up top. Toss it down to place it in the set.

Push open the shelf that unlocks to the right, near the circle set, to find a wooden statue. This won’t work in the statue display room — you’ll have to go one more step.

NOTE: You might notice another book in the library that wasn’t used for this puzzle. After acquiring the key and using it to unlock the top-left door, return to the library and get this book, then return to the start of the chapter. In the room with the fireplace, there’s a foreground-left door that leads to the elevator. To the left of the elevator is a hidden set of books. Place the last book into this set to unlock a final hidden door.

Place the wooden statue on the plate after taking the regular statue to escape.

The Second Statue

The second statue puzzle is located in the second floor left room. Taking the statue itself, tantalizingly sitting in the center of the room, causes the ceiling to slowly sink until it crushes the kid. To avoid this, take the wooden statue from the hidden library room, which we unlocked in the previous puzzle, and place it in the empty spot where the second statue was located.

With the fake in place, you’re free to leave. Return to the statue display room on the first floor and place the square statue in the square tile.

Use your flashlight to dispel incoming shadow monsters.

The Locked Room

After placing two statues, the lights in the Residence will go out. Return to the parlor where you first encountered the Lady (first floor, left door) and climb onto the dresser on the left to get the key now that she’s disappeared.

Watch out! When you enter the dark parlor, shadow creatures will attack. Back away and point your flashlight at the incoming creatures. If they get close, they’ll charge an instant-kill attack that lunges forward. You can dodge out of the way when that happens. Light will slow them down.

Defeat the three shadow creatures, then take the elevator up to the third floor. Use the key on the locked door on the left to gain access to the last area. Be prepared — shadow creatures are waiting around every corner. In the first room, fend off shadows until you reach the left door and then defend the area.

When the music stops, drag the red stool over to the left side of the door. Climb up and hang from the switch to unlock it. Fight through the halls and climb the ladder on the far left to reach another abandoned parlor. Use the empty shelf in the left foreground to reach a narrow wooden beam. Cross over and climb down the ladder — we’re almost done!

The room below is full of shadows. They never stop coming. To escape, fight them off until you have an opening, then turn the wheel to lower the right wall. Stop turning when more shadows appear, fighting them off, then returning to the wheel. When the wall is lowered enough, just sprint to the exit!

The last room is a parlor with a piano. Play the piano to open a secret (optional) compartment!

Open the globe and hang from the wall lamp to escape the parlor.

The Third Statue

The third and final statue is located in this piano parlor. To find it, jump and hang from the strange-shaped globe on the right. Drop down and the globe will open, revealing the last statue. To unlock the exit door, jump to the wall-lamp and hang from it — it’s a secret switch!

Take the last statue down to the first floor statue display room and place it in the circle tile to finally unlock the door.

The Conclusion

Past the broken mirror, you’ll encounter the Lady again. This time, there’s no way to sneak by her. She’ll spot you. Sprint through the mannequin room, then into the foreground in the narrow hallway. At the end of the hall, go into the left room — you’ll hear a door opening. The door to the right is now open.

Go inside, and the Lady will catch you! When you wake up, you’ll find that you’ve changed a little bit — you’re a Nome now. That means we can crawl through extremely narrow spaces and fall from any height without taking damage.

Crawl through the tiny crack in the door to the right and drop down onto the laundry below. Ride the hanging basket down, then run by the disgusting guests gorging themselves on food in the background. Past the elevator, drop through the hole in the room with the sleeping guests, then squeeze through the dark opening on the left to complete the DLC.
