Kingdom Come: Deliverance – How To Save Your Game | Beginner’s Guide

February 13, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

One of the most basic features in video games isn’t so easy in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Here are all the different ways you can save.

Nope, you can’t just save your game manually in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It’s actually a little more involved than that. If you’re not careful, you can lose tons of progress — there are some checkpoints, but they don’t happen often. With the right items, you can save anywhere, at any time, but that isn’t exactly clear to some new players, who are struggling with a mechanic most of us just take for granted.

The game aims for a more accurate experience, living the life of a commoner. Inns and taverns are useful places to sleep when travelling, but you’ll find other, alternate methods to save too — all of which provide other unique bonuses to your health. You can rest in a tavern, use a bathhouse to launder your clothes, or purchase special drinks to save wherever you want. Just don’t drink too much or you’ll become a Middle-Ages alcoholic.

How To Save Your Game | Beginner’s Guide

You cannot manually save in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. To save your progress when you want, you’ll need to use specific in-game spots, use items that can be purchased, or reach checkpoints. To help you understand the save system better, here are all the times when the game will automatically save, and how you can create save points yourself.

  • The game will save when you start a new quest, or reach certain milestones in the quest.
  • Rest in bed for one hour. Your personal bed is free to use, and as you progress through the story, you’ll unlock more beds.
  • Pay for a bed in taverns or inns. Talk to the proprietor of local inns or taverns, and you can pay to sleep in a bed for a night or several nights.
  • Use bathhouse services. Every town also has a bathhouse. Paying to use the service will save your game, and it doesn’t matter what level of service you pay for.
  • Find camp sites. If you manage to reach a camp site in the open-world forests, the game will save.
  • Purchase and drink Saviour Schnapps. Taverns sell expensive drinks called Saviour Schnapps — you can drink these at any time. They’re the closest thing to a manual save.
