The horror genre is constantly seeing new title installments hit the market every year. If you own the Xbox 360 and looking back to tweak your collection then we’ve got the list of our personal favorite horror titles to hit the console.
From video game titles that caused a terrifying atmosphere to gunning down countless zombies, there’s likely a horror title for just about everyone on this list. Dead Space Series

Dead Space takes place in the distant future where players control Isaac Clarke, an engineer for spacecrafts. When a ship sends out a distress signal, Isaac Clarke, and a team head out in hopes to fix the ship while bringing the crew back up and running their mining operations.
However, various difficulties and mishaps cause Isaac with his crew to be left with a very slim chance of survival. Players are up against a slew of Necromorphs, vile creatures that reanimate dead corpses. To make gameplay a bit more tense and horrifying, developers eliminate the heads-up display, rendering most of the vital signs and other necessary info within Isaac’s suit.
Alan Wake

A long time in the making, this game, originally a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, was developed by Remedy. Alan Wake features the eponymous writer, who has to unravel the dark secrets lurking beneath the surface of Bright Falls, a small town in the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
Things go bump at night, Alan’s wife ends up missing and he finds himself on the wrong end of a police manhunt. While the game’s plot is steeped in mystery, the gameplay is strongly focused on action and surviving whatever supernatural entity that ends up in Alan’s way.
Metro 2033

Metro 2033 is an FPS survival horror video game developed under 4A Games. The video game is set within Moscow after a horrible nuclear war where the surviving individuals within the lands are forced to go underground in order to live their lives.
Players within the game take the role of Artyom who is a man with a desire to save his home station from the dangers that reside within the tainted lands.
The Evil Within

The Evil Within was a highly anticipated video game from its very first announcement, largely thanks to the hype surrounding its director, Shinji Mikami, of Resident Evil fame.
Our protagonist Sebastian Castellanos is a police detective on the scene of a gruesome mass murder within a mental hospital. He is quickly thrust into a hellish world filled with gruesome creatures, testing his combat and puzzle solving abilities.
Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation is an action-adventure title based on the film series Alien. The game is set over a decade after the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, starring the daughter of Ellen Ripley.
The player’s journey into space is to solve the disappearance of Ellen but in the process, you will have to outsmart the alien creatures that lurk along the path. Gameplay strongly emphasizes on stealth gameplay mechanics.
F.E.A.R.

The F.E.A.R. series is an FPS with survival horror elements. This video game follows around the First Encounter Assault Recon or otherwise known as F.E.A.R. Used to fight against paranormal entities, the group finds themselves against their toughest target, Alma Wade.
Alma Wade was a young psychic girl that was imprisoned and experimented on. Now broken from her chains, Alma releases her rage with a potential to rip the fabric of reality.
Dead Island

Techland’s survival game may be most remembered for its fantastic first trailer, but we can’t forget that all of that zombie killing and open-world roaming is set in the middle of the ocean on a fictional island called Banoi, off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Four survivors wake up to find out that everyone else on the resort island has been infected and turned to creepy-crawlies by a plague.
The game’s heroes then bash lots of zombie parts with baseball bats and axes. While it can easily be argued that Dying Light is a better iteration on Dead Island, the tropical island resort setting definitely made Techland’s first major project interesting.
Silent Hill HD Collection

The Silent Hill franchise is an iconic series of the survival horror genre. Owned under Konami, we’ve seen a number of Silent Hill video game titles released over the years, though for the most part, everyone seems to not enjoy some of the later entries.
However, the first few title releases still remain classics with gamers continually going back to enjoy them each and every year. Back in 2012, Konami released an HD collection for the Silent Hill franchise, though oddly enough the collection only contained the second and third installments of the series.
While Silent Hill 2 can be enjoyed on its own, the third installment does pick up some of the narratives from the first Silent Hill title which is strange it was tossed into the collection without the first installment.
This collection does seem to get a mix reception with the fans, but if you don’t have any other means to enjoy the game, picking up the HD collection may prove to be well worth your time.
Resident Evil Revelations

If you’re looking for a side story to play through from the Resident Evil franchise then we have to suggest checking into the Resident Evil: Revelations titles. There’s a total of two installments available which will take place between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.
Within Resident Evil: Revelations, players follow staple characters to the series, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they attempt to stop a bioterrorist organization from infecting Earth’s oceans with a chemical virus.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 follows the events of the first Revelations title which will see the return of Claire Redfield and for the first time ever, gamers can play as Barry Burton. It’s also worth noting that for the sequel, you’ll find that the narrative will take place between Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6.
BioShock Series

Created under development studio Irrational Games, BioShock was a hit when it first launched into the market in 2007. Luckily, all three of the installments that are available in the market can be purchased for the Xbox 360. The game series acts as an FPS though set in cities that are cut off from the world speaking of which, the first installment takes place in an underwater city known as the Rapture which hosts the location for BioShock 2, an installment that acts as a sequel to the original title.
BioShock Infinite takes on a new story in a city known as Columbia that hovers above the clouds in the sky. All three stories are mature in nature and as of today, there’s no new information set on when we can see the next installment of the franchise.
Irrational Games has since disbanded leaving the IP in the hands of 2K Games who have stated in 2014 that the series would continue on. For now, we’ll have to wait and see just if we get a new main installment on the latest generation consoles. However, the first three titles are well worth the pickup on last gen consoles.
The Walking Dead

Telltale Games delivered a masterpiece for a video game based on the hit television show The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead: Season One focuses on a group of survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
Overall the story revolves around Lee Everett, a protagonist that was on his way to jail and Clementine, an eight-year-old girl that finds herself alone in the apocalypse. As players progress through the game, the story will provide different options and choices that will affect relationships with in-game characters. Depending on the choices made, players may find a unique way to reach the end of the game.

If you’re a fan of the cult TV series Twin Peaks, then chances are you’ve come across the video game Deadly Premonition. It’s quite easy to see where developers Access Games received their inspirations when creating the game narrative.
Within the game, players become an FBI agent who is sent to a small town within the United States in order to solve a murder. While investigating the murder it becomes obvious that there’s an otherworldly presence taking control of the town.
