Assassin’s Creed will have a new installment this year with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The video game is set in 431 BCE where players will have the choice of being a mercenary that fights for Athens and the Delian League or the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta. Either way, players will be a descendant of Spartan King Leonidas I during the Peloponnesian War.
Much like the previous Assassin’s Creed installments, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will feature a modern day protagonist as well. Ubisoft will be reintroducing players to Layla Hassan who was present during Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Developers over at Ubisoft seems to also be working more on an RPG progressive system in this upcoming title which ranges from dialogue choices to a skill tree that can help in aspects such as stealth and combat. Likewise we will see dialogue options which can alter the story narrative and gameplay.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooyjaVdt-jA
- Developer: Treyarch
- Publisher: Activision
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: October 12, 2018
There seems to never be any shortages when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise and this year we’re getting a new installment to the Black Ops line. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be launching in October of this year though there is one rather major element being completely dropped with this upcoming installment.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not contain a campaign mode. In the day and age of battle royale modes being incredibly popular, Treyarch has decided to make this next call of the Duty title to feature nothing but a multiplayer component.
The focus will be doubling down on the multiplayer game modes including Zombies. So if you’re a fan of Call of Duty for their online multiplayer matches then you have nothing to worry about in this installment but with that said, if you picked up the latest installments to enjoy the action-packed campaigns then you may have to hold out for the 2019 installment release.
Hitman 2
- Developer: IO Interactive
- Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: November 13, 2018
If you enjoyed the Hitman video game release back in 2016 then you won’t want to miss out on its sequel. Hitman 2 will continue on with the narrative journey left off in the previous installment. Players will once again step into the role of Agent 47 where he will be taking on contracts and killing off the designated targets. However, the overall goal in Agent 47’s mind is taking out the Shadow Client from the previous video game storyline.
There is also another change up from the past title and that this time around players will not have to deal with an episodic release. Unlike Hitman, Hitman 2 will have a more standard video game launch with the entire game being available right from its release. However, the game will still be supported post-release as developers IO Interactive will be delivering DLC expansions.
Gameplay will still be the same where Agent 47 will have to blend into his environment in order to stealthily take down his target. Currently, Hitman 2 is slated to launch in November of this year for the PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One platforms.
Fallout 76
- Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
- Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: November 14, 2018
Fallout 76 is the latest upcoming installment to the Fallout franchise though it will be quite a bit different in comparison to past main video game releases. Bethesda has developed Fallout 76 to be an online multiplayer title that takes place before previous Fallout games.
Within the game, players take on a member from Vault 76 where their goal is to help rebuild the wasteland when the vault opens twenty-five years after the nuclear war. While this is still an action RPG, the gameplay is centered on building up and maintaining settlements.
For instance, when players have managed to build up a base, they will have to defend it from the mutated monsters both old and new along with other hostile players. Luckily it seems that Bethesda has incorporated a feature that will save player creations when they are offline so you won’t have to start completely over if your settlement gets trashed when you’re not playing.

Metal Wolf Chaos XD
- Developer: General Arcade, FromSoftware
- Publisher: Devolver Digital
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: 2018
Metal Wolf Chaos was released in 2004 as a Japanese only Xbox exclusive title that features America’s president going to war with the vice president. Oddly enough the game never made it overseas which meant that the game was incredibly tough to come by and even more so to play. However, over the years the interest of playing this game only grew and now thanks to Devolver Digital, it seems that we’re going to be receiving localized copies.
Metal Wolf Chaos XD is the upcoming remastered edition of the game being developed under General Arcade. Players outside of Japan will finally be able to enjoy this mech title where President Michael Wilson will be fighting against the rebellion that’s under control of Vice-President Richard Hawk.
This remastered edition will also feature new controls, save system and 4K 16:9 support. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this, we don’t have a specific release date attached to the game quite yet. Instead, we are expected to receive the title sometime this year.
Life is Strange 2
- Developer: Dontnod Entertainment
- Publisher: Square Enix
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: September 27, 2018
Life is Strange was a massive hit release for developers Dontnod Entertainment. Players embarked on a personal and deeply emotional journey as they stepped into the shoes of a young high school student named Max. Without going too much into detail about the first game, Max finds out she has a supernatural ability that allows her to stop and rewind time. With this new power, Max and her best friend Chloe begins to dig up old town secrets while the overall gameplay narrative is shaped from the choices you make along the way.
We’ve been waiting for a sequel to the franchise and while it’s not a direct sequel to the first installment, Dontnod Entertainment is bringing on a brand new story set within the same world. The developers have been very secretive about this upcoming title but the hype and expectations for a great game are already set pretty high.
With that said, the development studio did release a standalone free video game called The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit which gives players a small glimpse into Life is Strange 2 and supposedly a few characters as well. Just what characters are making a bigger appearance in Life is Strange 2 remains to be seen.
Just Cause 4
- Developer: Avalanche Studios
- Publisher: Square Enix
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: December 4, 2018
Just Cause 4 was officially announced during Microsoft’s E3 press conference this year and as such players can expect to step back into the shoes of Rico Rodriguez. The game will still be a third-person action-adventure title set in an open world environment while being set in a fictional South American country called Solis.
The overall journey for Rico is to fight against a paramilitary group known as the Black Hand but in order to do so, players will have other hostilities to worry about. One of the biggest aspects that developers Avalanche Studios is pushing for this upcoming installment is weather conditions. Players will have to avoid downpours, lightning strikes and tornadoes when maneuvering around the country.
We’re still a bit away from the launch of the game so it’s uncertain as to if the title will come with its own exclusivity for a certain platform. But as of right now, Just Cause 4 is still slated to launch within December of this year.
