According to the official PlayStation blog, indie hit Journey has once again claimed the top spot on the PSN charts as the most downloaded game for the end of 2012.
Morgan Haro, Community Manager for PlayStation Digital Platforms, seems to suggest the return of the game to the top spot is due to its inclusion in “several Game of the Year lists”, and various awards and other recognition it has recently received for its “gameplay, music, and delivery on a truly breakthrough experience”. Perhaps a load of Grammy fans saw that it had been nominated for “Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media” and bought the game to find out what all the fuss was about.
Either way, it can't be denied that the game deserves recognition. You know, to go with the Grammy nomination and the multiple awards it won at the VGAs: Best PS3 Game, Best Independent Game, and Best Original Score.
The top twenty chart also features various episodes of VGA Game of the Year winner The Walking Dead in fifth, eleventh, and twentieth position. In second place is Mass Effect, the first game in the trilogy, which became available for PS3 for the first time when it came to the PlayStation Store in December.
It's particularly interesting to see the mix of independent and AAA titles, showing that one kind does not rule over the other. If you want to check out the full list, head over to the PlayStation blog.
