Journey Nominated for a Grammy

December 6, 2012 by Jordan Erica Webber

The game is up against films like The Artist and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Journey, the unique indie game from thatgamecompany that was released for PS3 earlier this year, has been nominated for a Grammy. Scroll down to category 57, “Best Score Sountrack for Visual Media” to see the game listed along with the composer Austin Wintory.

It's a pivotal moment for video games, especially given the whole, “Are games art?” debate that has recently arisen once again. This category is normally reserved for movies, as you can see from the other five nominations: The Adventures of TinTin – The Secret of the Unicorn, The Artist, The Dark Knight Rises, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Hugo.

For those who haven't played, Journey is a short downloadable game in which you play a silent figure travelling through a desert. You float across the sands, meeting magical – but equally voiceless – creatures and exploring the beautiful surroundings as you make your way towards a mountain in the distance. Sometimes, you'll meet another player, codenamed and silent, who might help you progress or just go their own way. It's a noteworthy game, and it's good to see it recognised both in its seven nominations in the Video Game Awards (including for Game of the Year) and now for this.
