Not only has Activision officially acknowledged and released the first teaser for Black Ops 2's Revolution DLC, the publisher has now revealed how many hours Call of Duty fans have logged in Black Ops 2 to date.
According to Activision, Black Ops 2 players have amassed a stunning 427 hours collectively in multiplayer, which is equivalent to 48712 years! I assume this is for all platforms the game's been released on so far. But nonetheless, still an impressive feat.
While this shouldn't be that surprising since the game did manage to gross $1 billion in 15 days, Activision still has yet to reveal actual sales figures. For those keepin track of these things, the publisher did the same thing with Modern Warfare 3. While they touted the title's record-breaking opening salvo, they kept quiet on just how many units it has sold.
Analysts are also claiming that Call of Duty is on the decline, and has even pegged it with a 17% drop year-over-year. Even if this is true, Call of Duty seems to be the most played multiplayer game in the world as of now. But if I was Activision, I'd already be prepping cash-cow number two, just in case Call of Duty goes the way of Tony Hawk or Guitar Hero.
Some people (including me) are already speculating that the publisher is doing this very thing with Bungie's Destiny — a purported sci-fi MMOFPS that's rumored to be slated for current and next-gen platforms.
Do you think Call of Duty's popularity is fading? Are those user numbers as high compared to Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops 1 and Modern Warfare 3?
