Physics-based games can get all kinds of weird. Just look at Human Fall Flat or I am Bread. Ben Esposito’s Donut County doesn’t fall far from the tree, choosing to centre an infinitely expanding, all-eating hole as its protagonist.
Yes, players control a hungry disc that moves across the floor, devouring and digesting anything that falls into it just like a black hole. It’s a sci-fi dystopia disguised by cute, low-poly art, a soft colour palette, and soothing trance tones, and you get to play the villain.
The latest trailer, which has been unveiled in time for PAX West, shows off improved visuals and a sneak peak at an updated storyline that’s narrated by a peaceful raccoon, who is working within a ‘Donut Lab’. What do donuts have to do with the giant circle? Why is it swallowing all of Donut County’s anthropomorphic residents? There’s only one way to find out.
Donut County is playable at PAX West booth 6908. It’s expected to release for PC and iOS platforms.
