Child's Play Charity, which donates toys and video games to hospitals for the child patients to play with, has announced a record-breaking total of funds raised over the last year. Throughout 2012, donations from various sources have combined to raise $5,085,761 for the charity, $1.5 million more than the year before.
Child's Play wrote to thank its “amazing community of generous, engaged individuals who are deeply passionate for the cause”, with special mentions for a few notable donors. Those highly charitable individuals were kept anonymous, but the charity does pay tribute to the Humble Bundle team, which asks purchasers to donate a portion of their chosen payment for each bundle of games to the charity, and LoadingReadyRun, which organised the 6th Desert Bus for Hope Marathon last year. That latter event saw the team of internet comedians play famously terrible mini-game Desert Bus for six days and eight hours, raising $443,630.
If you want to make sure Child's Play gets a good head start on this year, you can donate over on the website. Or just remember, next time you buy a bundle from Humble Bundle, to push your chosen contribution a little closer to the charity's side of things.
