You could very well argue that the horror genre was greatly altered with the release of Resident Evil. If you’re not familiar with the name Shinji Mikami then there’s no doubt you know his work. The famed and beloved developer is responsible for Resident Evil and a number of installments after the franchise’s big debut.
The developer worked at Capcom for a number of years and as mentioned, brought out Resident Evil. Since Resident Evil, the developer continued to stay with the project as either a director or producer all the way through Resident Evil 4, where he finally took his leave from the franchise and ultimately Capcom.
Since then, the developer has gone on to create a number of various projects, the latest being The Evil Within and as an executive producer for its sequel. With Resident Evil 7 being such a massive hit and the developers taking a step back to look at the franchise’s roots, it’s curious as to if the man behind the series itself would ever consider returning.
PCGamesN recently had the chance to speak with Shinji Mikami while at QuakeCon. At the convention, the publication asked Shinji Mikami if he had total creative control, would he return to direct Resident Evil 8. His response was short and to the point.
“I might.”
While it’s not anything to get excited about, it seems that the creator would fancy the idea of going back to the franchise after years being separated from it. Regardless, as it stands right now, the creator is more aimed at the release of the upcoming The Evil Within 2 video game, but after its release, who knows what’s in store for Shinji Mikami.
