The Nintendo Switch launched just last month and while most gamers are still having trouble trying to track a unit down at their local retailers, new information regarding the console is still finding its way out to the public.
For instance, we just reported on some of the early days of the Switch development. This included the developers crafting the console to allow multiple people to play anywhere along with some of the thoughts that the late Nintendo president had when it came to the Switch.
Now, thanks to a report made by Nintendo Everything, we are getting a bit more news when it came to the decision in making online multiplayer require a monthly subscription fee.
When it comes down to it, Nintendo is hoping that by adding a fee for online services will allow the company to properly take care of features and support new experiences that will be added towards the console. Speaking to Famitsu, Nintendo’s managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi noted that more features will be coming out for the Nintendo Switch that will take use of the online subscription fee.
Most of these features have yet to be unveiled to the public yet though we do know that Nintendo will be giving away one free classic Nintendo game each month. However, unlike services such as PlayStation Plus that allow gamers to keep the free monthly games just as long as their subscription payment is active, Nintendo’s free classic game acts as a trial.
Instead, gamers will have a month to enjoy the video game and afterward will lose the title unless paid for separately.
