Zombies Mode was one of the most popular game modes in the first Black Ops, and it’s been a staple of Treyarch games since they first added it into Call of Duty 3.
Like the name suggests, Zombies Mode pits players against a horde of zombies. Though unlike Left 4 Dead, which sees players making their way through a map while killing zombies along the way, Zombies Mode in the Call of Duty games has players defending their home base by boarding up the doors and windows and taking out the zombies as they make their way inside. In that sense, it’s a bit like Horde Mode in Gears of War, but with zombies.
In the first Black Ops, Zombies Mode even got a DLC called “Call of the Dead” which saw the addition of celebrities as playable characters, including Danny Trejo (Machete), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), and Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead).
Treyarch seems to have a good understanding of how highly anticipated the mode happens to be, and with that in mind, they’ve published what looks like the achievement icon for the Zombies Mode in Black Ops 2. They put the image up on their official Twitter account by replacing their existing avatar with the icon.
It’s unknown whether the new version of Zombies Mode in Black Ops 2 will feature cameos from cult movie actors, but we’re certainly counting on it to be every bit as fun as its predecessors, if not more so.
