Firaxis has announced that Tim Wynn, the award-winning composer behind the Supernatural and XCOM: Enemy Unknown music, will score the XCOM 2 soundtrack.
The original soundtrack will come free with a copy of the game’s digital deluxe edition, and will also be released on February 5th on iTunes.
A statement from 2K praised the upcoming strategy title’s music:
“The score for XCOM 2 continues the legacy sound of the acclaimed reboot and expands the franchise's sonic palette with emotional orchestral themes and synth-driven sci-fi ambience now defined by the epic fight to take back the planet. XCOM 2 marks Tim Wynn's second outing in the XCOM universe having also written music for XCOM: Enemy Unknown.”
Firaxis’ latest alien-fighting strategy game was originally meant to launch last November, but was then delayed to this February. XCOM 2 takes place after Earth has been invaded. On a twist from XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within, players will find themselves playing the role of a beleaguered but determined resistance.
The game’s developers have said that modding was “one of the pillars of the design.” We also recently got a look at some in-game screenshots of shanty towns and suburbs.
XCOM 2, developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K, will be available around the world for PC on February 5th.
