Sega Q2 2015 is looking dire, as projections are so poor Sega is now considering letting go of 200 jobs.
Rather than direct layoffs, Sega will be offering 200 employees voluntary retirement. Sega says they expect this move to improve profitability by March 2016.
Sega is planning to report a loss of £ 9.85 million, or $ 14.96 million, for the quarter. Rather than citing anything directly related to video game development, they are putting it down to the delay of their pachinko and pachislot titles in Japan. Some of that loss is also coming from the money set aside for those early retirements.
Unfortunately, there really isn’t much Western fans will be able to do at this point. There are games coming from Sega shortly, such as the Alien Isolation The Collection, and3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as well as output from Sega-owned Atlus, clearly Sega’s financial future is no longer primarily driven by games.
