The latest issue of the Halo comic has come out, dropping further hints on the content of upcoming game Halo 5. Or maybe we should call it Halo 4.5.
Here’s the description coming straight out of solicitations, courtesy CBR:
The Master Chief returns in “The Next 72 Hours: Part 1”! After defeating the Didact, John-117 joined the crew of Infinity . . . but why did he leave? The mystery begins here. Halo® lead writer Brian Reed (Amazing Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel) reveals the secret events that immediately follow the end of Halo 4.
So, it’s possibly that the Master Chief called John-117 didn’t defeat, aka destroy the Didact completely, but just beat them at the end of Halo 4. In the lore, the Didact is actually next to impossible to kill, so it’s more likely he suffered a serious defeat.
Based on the blurb, this comic book is set immediately after the events of that game, literally days after. We know that soon after the events in the comics (which encompass the next 72 hours), the USC will lose contact with John, that they will hide the existence of the Didact, and that John seems to have run off into some secret mission without telling his superiors, or anyone, for that matter.
And so, it’s similarly possible that Halo 5 is set immediately after the comics themselves, and not too long after Halo 4. We still don’t quite know why the UNSC is keeping the Didact a secret, or what the secret events and John’s secret mission are, but we may not have to wait long, as E3 is eight weeks away at this point. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest in Halo 5.
