Irrational has announced 1998 Mode for BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode Two which challenges players to complete the story using only non-lethal means.
Episode Two, which launches on March 25th, sees players take on the role of Elizabeth for the first time and many of the original BioShock's characters will be returning including Andrew Ryan, Daisy Fitzroy, and Frank Fontaine.
1998 Mode follows in the footsteps of Infinite's 1999 Mode, which was the game's hardest difficulty setting. Irrational creative director Ken Levine commented:
“In Burial at Sea – Episode Two we put a focus on balance and stealth mechanics. As we were developing this new style of gameplay, we started to see people self-impose non-lethal playthrough’s. Given the fan reception of 1999 Mode, we thought it would be cool to give them another way to play Burial at Sea that challenged their mastery of stealth tools.”
Last week, Levine announced that Irrational Games was "winding down" with most of the staff being made redundant.
