The virtual monetization company PlaySpan has been hit with a security breach according to Develop. The personal information of millions has been leaked. The data leaked contains email addresses, encrypted passwords and user IDs. They have sold codes for games like Eve Online, Runescape, Guild Wars and World of Tanks in the past, though it is unknown what games have been affected.
Speaking to Develop, a PlaySpan spokesperson assured them that there was no evidence that any payment information had been accessed or compromised. All Marketplace accounts have been locked, with the entire Marketplace site being closed down permanently. All players are being asked to reset their passwords in the meantime, to help reassure their accounts. PlaySpan is conducting an investigation and analysis on the breach, and no further information is available.
“We sincerely apologise for any frustration or inconvenience this incident has caused our customers," said a PlaySpan spokesperson. "We know PlaySpan’s business depends on consumer trust. Security is a top priority for us, and we are redoubling our efforts to strengthen PlaySpan’s overall system security.”
