While the XCOM game that's on everyone's mind right now is Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a lot of people might not know that 2K has another XCOM game in deveopment.
This as-of-yet untitled XCOM game was announced more than a year ago and was originally being developed by 2K Canberra before being shifted to 2K Marin (BioShock 2). It was first announced as a first-person shooter, but now it seems the game is undergoing an even bigger shift.
According to Kotaku, which has screenshots sent by an anonymous reader from a marketing survey, the game seems to be going back to the drawing board and will now instead be a third-person shooter.
The overall XCOM premise still remains the same, but it's supposedly now being pitched as a squad-based game that's similar to SOCOM, which willl see the player controlling a team and being able to order his squad mates around.
The same survey also states that the game is being developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Yep, there's no mention of a PC version in it. What's more, the survey takers are being asked how they'd feel if the game was available as a $30 downloadable title instead of being a full $60 retail game.
Keep in mind that this is pretty much a rumor. When asked for a comment, 2K issued the now-standard "It is not our policy to comment on rumors or speculations" spiel.
