In case you were thinking of serving up a tasty platter of Nintendo Switch cartridges at your next dinner party, think again. You’re welcome.
It’s official, Nintendo Switch cartridges taste revolting. But who was the pioneer that first discovered the taste of Switch cartridges? Well, dear reader, the answer to that question would be: Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann who performed a spontaneous taste test on a Switch cartridge which was then posted on Reddit. His priceless reaction served as as inspiration for other journalists to see what a piece of Nintendo tasted like.
This prompted Nintendo to give an official word on why the cartridges taste so terrible.
“A bittering agent (Denatonium Benzoate) has also been applied to the game card,” said a Nintendo spokesperson.
The spokesperson confirmed that the cartridges intentionally hurt the taste buds of anyone (kids, probably) that tried to ingest them. All of this to avoid health and safety issues.
Given that the company’s focus on gaming experiences that are ‘suitable for all ages’, it’s not too surprising to see these measures implemented.
Well played Nintendo.
The Nintendo Switch launches on March 3, 2017.
