There has been plenty of talk lately when it comes to Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch. Early on when the console only went by a codename, the Nintendo NX, it was rumored that this system was being developed as a hybrid console which turned out to be true.
The Nintendo Switch will allow gamers to enjoy the console at home docked to a television or taken on the go with removable controllers and a touchscreen interface display.
Nintendo has stated before that the upcoming Nintendo Switch will not replace their 3DS mobile lineup, but it seems that Sony may have a similar console in the works dedicated to mobile gaming. Sony has been pushing out mobile dedicated handhelds for a number of years now with the latest being the Sony PlayStation Vita.
The currently handheld from Sony has been out for nearly ten years now so we’re expecting Sony to potentially unveil a new updated system release relatively soon. Now a patent has surfaced online, which according to a NeoGaf post, Sony had patented the potential project back in 2015.
According to the image, it seems that Sony may also release a console eerily similar to the Nintendo Switch. We’re not sure if the side controllers will detach like the removable Joy-Con controllers on the Switch.
Nevertheless, this could be the next mobile handheld Sony may be working on for a future release. Being that this is a patent, there’s no telling if this project will ever come to fruition or not. Take a look at what the Nintendo Switch looks like to compare within the gallery posted down below.
