Guerilla Games Detail the Origin of Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn

February 13, 2017 by Jordan Biazzo

Seems like Aloy has already became an icon before the game is even released!

One of the big PS4 exclusives of 2017 is Guerilla Games new IP, Horizon: Zero Dawn. Ever since the reveal, gamers have been enthralled by the new world Guerilla managed to bring to life; its lush nature settings, its robotic animal-like creatures, and most importantly the protagonist — Aloy.

Guerilla Games are known for their iconic PlayStation franchise, Killzone; so when they announced an open world, third-person action adventure game, gamers all around were intrigued. However, it is very hard to bring a new character to life and hope to see it strive in the gaming community.

Take a look at a new video down below, showing how Guerilla managed to bring a new icon to the PlayStation library:

“We focused really hard on creating the best possible character we could,” says John. “We never thought that it would be a selling point that we’re having a female protagonist, we thought it would be more a selling point that you’re being the best possible person and character to play as in this world. People who have played the game so far seem to really enjoy being Aloy.”

And being Aloy is definitely something people want to be, as proved by the growing number of them attending conventions, eagerly awaiting the game’s launch and exploring Guerrilla Games’ studio, waving and chatting to the team who created her.

“Things like the cosplayers gives us this feeling that Aloy is a character that people really want to become,” smiles John. “There’s something about her that they find in terms of visual design, abilities, and story that they want to immerse themselves in. That’s really exciting and inspiring.”

Guerilla Game developers also delve into some detail about the game’s consequence system and how they managed to pick Ashly Burch to voice Aloy on the PlayStation Blog, which you can read in full right here.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is set to release exclusively on PS4 on February 28.
