In news that I don't know to dissect personally, Paul W.S. Anderson — director of the Resident Evil movie franchise — has confirmed that a Castlevania movie is still in the works and he's still slated to direct it.
In a video interview with IGN, Anderson states, "I'm still very excited about potentially turning Castlevania into a movie." He also admits that "making videogame movies, it's not the easiest thing in the world," and thinks that a lot of film studios think it is, hence the glut of unsuccessful adaptations.
Lucky for us that Anderson doesn't want to make a Castlevania movie just for the sake of it. "It's something that takes time to get right," Anderson said, "We've got no interest in making a Castlevania movie until it's something we can get really right."
I admit, I'm not a fan of the Resident Evil films, but Capcom is still churning them out, so it must be doing something right, no? And Anderson did direct the decent Mortal Kombat movie adaptation, so there's hope yet.
Anderson's next Resident Evil flick — Resident Evil: Retribution — is set to hit theaters on September 14 and will once again star his real-ife spouse Milla Jovovich.
Would you want to see a Castlevania flick? And would you want Anderson anywhere near it? Sound off and let us know.
