Windows 10 will soon have a new update that will include a feature called Game Mode. As you can probably guess, this feature will allow Windows 10 PCs to perform even better during gameplay, though we’re ways away before we can try the feature out ourselves.
The official announcement came from Xbox Wire, where the head of Xbox platform engineering Mike Ybarra, went over the basic details regarding this feature. Game Mode will come packed within the Creators Update and according to Mike Ybarra, the goal is to have Windows 10 PC optimized well enough to increase performance in gaming.
“Our goal is to make Windows 10 the best Windows ever for gaming. With the Creators Update, we’re introducing a new feature called Game Mode. Windows Insiders will start seeing some of the visual elements for Game Mode this week, with the feature being fully operational in builds shortly thereafter. Our vision is for Game Mode to optimize your Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming.
This is a big update for Windows; we’re looking forward to Insiders getting their hands on this new feature for further testing, and we’ll have much more to share on what it is and how it works soon, so stayed tuned.”
In the past, a leaked document showcased Microsoft adding this new feature into Windows 10 PC in the future. For most gamers, it was speculated that Game Mode will only work for Universal Windows Platform games that were picked up through the Windows Store.
It turns out that’s not the case as Ybarra also took to Twitter to clarify the Game Mode feature. This upcoming update will work for both Win32 and Universal Windows Platform games.

For now, we’ll have to wait until the Creators update launches sometime this spring in order to see just how well Game Mode optimizes Windows 10 PCs for gameplay.
