Dishonored is the only game on the horizon that's set to offer free-form gameplay with stealth elements and combat.
Not unlike Thief, Deus Ex, and Bioshock, the upcoming title from Arx Fatalis studio Arkane and Deus Ex creator Harvey Smith will offer the player the freedom to interact with the world in a wide array of ways rather than confining the player towards a single form of play.
Dishonored's missions are said to be morally grey, leaving the player conflicted over their actions.
"I definitely want to engage the player's emotion and let them express themselves," said lead developer Raf Colantonio in a recent interview with VG247. "It’s more about the player than us (developers) really, and I think players recognise that. I’ve heard a few players say that of our previous game, like ‘to me it felt real, like a place with identification. A very real place.’
"That was a really nice feeling that they said that, because it wasn’t a corridor where everything feels fake and you never look behind or explore, or you just keep on moving forward and everyone’s faking it. Those games are a show, you know, but occasionally I like that."
True to the rest of the game's free-form, non-linear nature, Dishonored will offer three main endings and variations of them based on your performance and actions throughout the game to reflect the personal choice of the player.
Dishonored will be out on October 9 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
