A week before the official launch, footage from the first 9 minutes of Team Ico’s The Last Guardian has been released. The video shows a young boy, who is the game’s protagonist, as he interacts with a gigantic, griffin-like creature. The translations* are as follows:
When he woke up, there was a cavern he had never seen before.
Before his eyes was a large creature – the giant, man-eating eagle, Trico.
He’s a bit scary, isn’t he?
He gets excited for some reason
Let’s separate them and look at the situation a bit
Move with the left stick
And operate the camera with the right stick
If you look carefully, there’s something pricking his leg
Jump with the triangle button
It looks like it hurts, so let’s help him pull it out
The now obedient Trico is gazing at something
Oh, there’s something that’s shining isn’t there? Let’s get a bit closer
Use the triangle button to scramble up places that look like ones you can grab
The thing Trico was looking at was this barrel
You can hold the barrel by pressing the circle button
Let’s give it to Trico
You can throw the barrel if you press the square button
Oops that was rude
He ate it all up!
It seems like there was something Trico loved inside of it
Somehow it looks like he’s hungry, right?
It seems Trico’s full and doing well
(Oh?) It looks like he’s connected to a collar and can’t move
If you face Trico and jump, you can grab onto him
Let’s help him out and remove the collar
It looks like Trico is completely attached to the boy
Now that Trico is better, the boy has decided to leave this cavern together
The boy and Trico who have arrived at the lake
To advance forward, you need to be able to climb up ramps
But, the boy alone can’t reach with his hands
What if we jump from Trico’s back?
Huh? Trico won’t come into the lake
It seems like somehow he’s scared of water
Maybe we can somehow take him along to the place where the ramp is?
(Oh?) One of Trico’s favourite barrels was in a place like this
Let’s use this barrel to call him over, shall we?
I wonder if it will go well?
He jumped in! It’s a success.
By working together with Trico the boy could safely climb up the ramp
This is where we part. I’ll return to the village alone
Don’t follow me!
And so the two finally escaped from the cavern
It seems like Trico is happy to be able to get outside as well
In front of the cavern, there was a landscape they had never laid eyes on before
Their adventure had just begun
There are probably various trials awaiting two the of them from here on
Occasionally you’ll be able to receive help from Trico…
Sometimes, you’ll help him…
And while you combine your strengths
The two of you go forward
And as for the destiny that awaits Trico and the young boy…
The Last Guardian is scheduled for release on Dec 6 for PS4.
