If you've seen Assassin's Creed III, it's hard to argue that it looks anything but gorgeous. This is without even acknowledging the multitude of things happening all at once.
Now, Ubisoft has revealed what makes this beautiful world come alive and it's called "AnvilNext." This is Ubisoft's "radically redesigned" game engine for Assassin's Creed III.
AnvilNext is not only responsible for the pretty graphics, it also powers the game's physics engine and AI. According to Ubisoft, due to advancements to the engine, it will allow up to 2000 non-player characters (NPCs) in a single sequence; which is shown off by the game's "war" scenario.
Aside from this, Connor himself is a prime example on how a good game engine can make a game's protagonist look much more believable.
Assassin's Creed III is set for release on October 30 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
