Modern Warfare 3 August DLC Gets First Official Details

July 31, 2012 by Alex Co

Sledgehammer Games Outlines the DLC MW3 fans will get this August.

Sledgehammer Games, who co-developed Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward has now detailed what fans can expect for August's MW3 content drop.

The DLC will contain two new Spec Ops missions called "Light 'em Up" and "Special Delivery."

Light 'em Up is set after MW3's main campaign and has two SAS operatives raiding an Eastern European fortress to rescue a teammate. This level will also let players pilot a helicopter — a first for a Modern Warfare game, if I'm not mistaken. The player controlling the chopper uses a powerful searchlight that they can use to blind enemies, search for intel packages and hostages. All the while this is happening, the second player is on the ground and both players must work hand-in-hand to clear each stage.

Sledgehammer Games VP and COO Michael Condrey states, "It's a night mission, so you come in under the cover of night. One guy is piloting the Little Bird and protecting from an overwatch position with explosive cover, while the guy on the ground is looking for intel on where the hostage is in this heavily fortified location."

Special Delivery, meanwhile, will take players on a dam at the Chinese river to rescue a helicopter pilot. Sledgehammer is giving players the chance to use the Osprey Gunner killstreak reward in this particular Spec Ops mission — both as a gunner, while dropping Care Packages at the same time.

"The guy in the air runs the Osprey Gunner and can drop .50 cal shells from the air, and call in explosive rounds. But the cool thing is that I can drop three different types of Care Packages to my buddy on the ground trying to get to the downed pilot," adds Condrey.

Here's two screenshots of the levels (via Videogamer).

While there's no firm release date for this content drop, it will be available for Xbox 360 Call of Duty Elite members first, who will get the DLC "within the next few weeks."

Are you excited for this or would you want more competitive multiplayer content?
