Nintendo 3DS XL Has 9 Percent Less Glare

July 20, 2012 by Jen Shaffer

So much for using it as a giant mirror.

Consumers might wonder what sets the Nintendo 3DS XL apart from it's smaller counterparts, and Nintendo aims to give everyone a reason to own the new handheld. According to the company, the 3DS XL reduces glare by almost 10%.

The Nintendo 3DS uses a typical LCD screen, exactly like the handhelds that came before. These screens have three reflective layers, each one piling on reflectivity and adding to the glare problem. The LCD screen on the 3DS XL has specially treated layeers that reduces glare from 12% to 3%

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said, "Anti-reflection has been a topic every time since the Game Boy Advance system, but most of the time we had to give it up because of the cost."

Looks like now, Nintendo has all of their ducks in a row and can afford to spend a extra few bucks to create a better display. Since technology has advanced – as it tends to do when we aren't looking – the price of anti-reflectivity coats is much more cost effective than it once was.
