Sorry to disappoint those who were hoping for it, but Grand Theft Auto V won't be making an appearance at Gamescom. If you were wondering where this notion came from, a trailer for the event was released by the organizers and it containted a snippet of Grand Theft Auto V.
Naturally, people saw it and assumed the game will be shown by Rockstar in Germany. Well, as it turns out, that footage's inclusion is nothing more than an "error."
Franko Fischer, communications manager for Gamescom, has gone on the record and said, "Rockstar Games is not scheduled and has never been scheduled to exhibit at Gamescom 2012."
He also added that all GTA V footage has since been removed from the said trailer and that they "apologize for any confusion this may have caused."
Of course, if Rockstar was indeed making an appearance at Gamescom, I'd do the exact same thing — which is to deny it so it will have a bigger impact.
So could this "confirmation" be a red herring? While I'd like to believe that, chances are Fischer is telling it straight. If Rockstar wasn't ready to show anything about GTA V at E3, chances are that they also won't have anything substantial for it two months after.
Does this lessen Gamescom's importance for you or should we forget about seing Grand Theft Auto V this year entirely?
