Struggling publisher THQ has released a free, location-based check-in app now available in the App Store in the US and Canada. The app, which is really more of a promotional tool in anticipation of Darksiders 2, you "harvest the souls" of anyone who has happened to check in at the same locations via Facebook. You earn extra points if the location happens to be a Best Buy.
The top prize is a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula (or a "Trip to the End of the World," as the press release refers to it), while other prizes include an in-game weapon, wallpapers, trailers, a full-size replica of Death's scythe, and a digital comic.
Jim Huntley, vice president of global brand marketing at THQ, hyped the app, saying, "The Soul Harvest app is a great way for Darksiders fans to connect with the game's fiction and interact with each other."
Darksiders 2 is slated for release on August 14 for Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
