It seems Sleeping Dogs' combat mechanics has "Rush" written all over it. Now, it's not what you think. I'm not saying it lacks polish, but that United Front Games has seeked the help of current UFC Welterweight champ George "Rush" St. Pierre to aid them in the game's combat.
The documentary video shows us that the game's lead animators consulted with "GSP" in order to make the moves as realistic as possible, St, Pierre teaches them a pointer or two on why a striking animation might look weird due to it being incorrect. Not only that, but George demos a few of his favorite moves and we get to see how they're interpreted in the game.
What's more impressive here is that the animators themselves seem to know a few Martial Art moves, too. The way they kick, shadow box and whatnot seem to indicate that they know the science and concept of fighting, which should make Sleeping Dogs' fighting much more believable.
Lastly, they show St. Pierre taking a stab at the game's combat…only concern is he kept on asking for more and more enemies. Oh, and he seems to like driving over pedestrians a tad too much as well.
Sleeping Dogs is slated for release this coming August for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3,
