We've all heard rumours about how much pull Activision has over console manufacturers. Did you know that the reason for the last Xbox Live subscription rise was because Microsoft had started giving Activision a slice of the pie because of the amount of people using the service to play Call of Duty? Well, add this one to the list of Activision-based rumours, especially since it came from the highest source of news within the gaming industry: Michael Pachter.
"I think that essentially this is a solution in search of a problem," he said. "I mean, somebody had an idea – 'let's make the controller a tablet' – and there aren't many games that are going to take advantage of that.
"Activision never said anything to me, but I know that [for] big games like Call Of Duty they said, 'No, we're not putting it on there if you don't give us a conventional controller'. So they gave in."
It makes sense I suppose, especially given that a console without a Call of Duty game is definitely going to suffer within a certain crowd. Activision knows that and so do Nintendo. Whether that was the thinking behind the announcement of the Wii U Pro Controller or not is debateable, but I suppose it makes an odd sort of sense.
