Squadron 42 is Star Citizen’s single-player campaign. It was originally slated for release sometime in 2016. That has since changed. The studio announced today that the game has been delayed to an indefinite point in the future.
Squadron 42 was once a part of Star Citizen, but the game was split from the multiplayer portion to be a standalone release in February this year. If you want to play the single-player campaign, you’ll be able to do so without picking up the multiplayer game. The game is set be along the lines of Wing Commander, starring a number of famous Hollywood actors including Mark Hamill and Gary Oldman.
Chris Roberts, the game’s chief developer, announced the game’s delay during the Citizencon livestream.
“As much as we wanted to have Squadron 42 for this year, it’s not going to be this year,” Roberts said. He added that most of the game’s 28 missions were only in their preliminary stages and nowhere close to completed.
Given the lack of a proper release date and the current stage of the game’s development, it’s safe to say we won’t get a concrete release date for a while yet.
