Gamescom, much like E3, has plenty of news and reveals from the video game industry. Sony was present showcasing a wide range of video games and trailers for their upcoming titles. During coverage from YouTube channel Sony Insider, PlayStation executive, Jim Ryan, was asked if it was tough to balance the different video game titles between Indie and AAA.
It’s no secret that there are plenty of indie titles that are picked up and distributed through Sony. These small titles that seem to pop up from nowhere can really gain a massive following as indicated by Hello Games recent release of No Man’s Sky.
This had prompted the question from Sony Inside to ask Jim Ryan his thoughts on indie and AAA. According to the PlayStation executive, at the end of the day, it’s just about great video games.
“At the end of the day, it’s just about great games. We don’t discriminate between something that’s a AAA or something that’s an indie. If something’s a great game, then it gets focus, attention, and love.”
This is a great outlook for the company as it appears that even the smallest of studios can be picked up and given the support needed in order to deliver a video game gem to the market. Again, No Man’s Sky is a great example as this was a small indie development team that became a worldwide name simply for their latest exploration video game title release.
