3DS Was July’s Best-Selling System in the US

August 18, 2016 by Kris Kittie

Surprisingly, the system beat out both the Xbox One and the PS4 all thanks to Pokemon Go.

Nintendo has shared that the 3DS was the best-selling system in the United States last month, beating out both the PS4 and the Xbox One.

The 3DS sold almost 80% more units in the US during July as compared with the same period last year, in 2015, according to NPD data. Nintendo did not share a specific number, however.

Nintendo attributes this turnaround for the 3DS’s high sales to the release of Monster Hunter Generations (which was coincidentally July’s best-selling game). This was “continued momentum” following the 2DS price drop in May, and “widespread positive public reception” for Pokemon Go, which launched in July.

Pokemon game sales were also on the rise during the month. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire combined sold over 80% more copies than in July of last year, despite being almost two years old. 2013’s X and Y saw a sales increase of almost 200% year-over-year.

Nintendo also noted that 2DS sales in the US have now surpassed 2 million units.
