Microsoft has proudly announced that the Xbox One proved to be the best-selling console in the United States this past July.
NPD’s monthly report for July has all of the data. This report will not be released until next week however, due to a change since the addition of digital data to NPD’s sales data.
This milestone is somewhat of a surprise as the PS4 has often outsold Xbox One since their initial launches. Xbox One has topped PS4 in the US before, but not since last October. PS4 has lead sales every month since then, but this does not necessarily reflect Xbox One’s sales, as December was its best month up until then.
Two new Xbox systems are in production, the Xbox One S having debuted at the beginning of this month, August. This did not negative affect the sale of the standard Xbox One, as some decent sales for that console transpired.
Microsoft’s statement on the NPD report said, “total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours.”
The launch edition of the Xbox One S has already sold out in the UK and is “nearly sold out in the US.”
More information will be released with the July NPD report next week.
