PGS Labs introduced a powerful portable console (PGS) that claims to bring all your favorite PC games in your hands.
It is 1.6 cm thick small enough to fit into your pocket.
“Additional Display” is the highlighted unique features of PGS. The primary screen is a 5.7 inch QHD display (2560 x 1440) that provides a pixel-perfect image. While the second display works as a second monitor in Windows that can be your touchscreen keyboard, a notepad, or anything else you can think of.
This ultraportable console comes in two versions; PGS Lite and PGS Hardcore. The former features a 5.5 inch screen (1280 X 720 resolution), 64 GB storage and 4GB RAM, while the later comes packed with 5.7 inch primary screen (2560X 1440 resolution) 128 GB storage and 8GB RAM.
The heart of the device is quad-core 2.56GHz Intel Atom X7-Z8750 processor, packed with 16-core Intel HD graphics accelerator. Tested on games including, ‘Batman: Arkham Knight, Dark Souls 2, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Mirror’s Edge’, the new PGS hits at least 30 frames per second making it more like a compact gaming laptop.
PGS is not presented as a portable console alone. It seems like a compact PC and a powerful smartphone as well, since it is capable of booting up in both Android 6 and Windows 10 modes.
With Windows 10 as the main operating system, you can carry your home computer in your pocket without any limitations. PGS offers a PC compatible architecture that lets you install not only games, but also all other software created for a fully loaded PC. The level of performance may not match with your home PC but it is powerful enough to run demanding programs like Z-Brush, 3D Max, After Effects and lot more.
Connect a display, wireless manipulators, keyboard, mouse or speakers and use it just as your classic desktop personal computer.
The secondary operating system ‘Android 6’ and the LTE module make PGS a high-performance smartphone. The custom API of the device lets you receive calls, stay connected on social networks, check emails and do a lot more while enjoying your HD games.
Good news is that the PGS is capable of streaming devices through a WiFi network that lets you continue your Xbox One, Steam, or PS4 games virtually anywhere there’s WiFi.
Doing so much together on a portable device can make it hot and process slowly. To keep it cool, PGS comes packed with a passive cooling system using a copper radiator which would transmit heat to the case of the device and prevent the processor from overheating. So, PGS is secure from CPU throttle or other damages due to high temperatures.
The cost of this seemingly amazing Portable Gaming System is up to $300, depending on which version you want to buy. It is significantly less priced considering the features promised of the device. You are getting a full version of Windows 10, the hardware, 2 HD screens and a guarantee of PC gaming experience on the go. It is way too much to expect for a bargain price of $300.
It may sound too good to be true. So let’s not keep our hopes high and wait for the launch. The device should be available in the markets early next year. In the meanwhile, you can find everything you need to know about PGS on the official PGS site.
