If you’ve never played Shadowrun, it’s a turn-based pen and paper game that merges high fantasy with cyberpunk themes. Aside from generating a ton of novels and a board game, the game was also adapted into the form of an SNES video game and much more recently, a terrible FPS at the behest of Microsoft.
Since then, fans have been pining for a return to form, and Shadowrun’s creator Jordan Weisman plans to create just that with his new studio Harebrained Schemes. Shadowrun Returns is a high definition, 2D tactical turn-based RPG for the PC.
The game is also being developed with Mitch Gitelman and Mike Mulvihill, who worked on Shadowrun while at FASA Corporation. In addition to their talents, writers like Michael Stackpole, Tom Dowd, Malik Toms, Mel Odom, Jason Hardy and Stephen Kenson are also jumping onboard to aid with the game’s story.
The developers are looking for $400,000 to make the game, and they’ve almost reached their goal with less than a month remaining. Should the project be overfunded, they’ll even develop a Mac version. You can support it here.
