The Witcher 2 is a game known for offering tough, meaningful decisions to the player. CD Projekt RED says that they strive to offer proper choices and consequences to the player even if it means doubling the workload.
In an interview with CVG, The Witcher 2 lead level artist Marek Ziemak said that meaningful choices formed the backbone of the game.
“We were looking for a way to make those consequences meaningful and really important for the players. To show that, we sometimes have to kill some characters, sometimes burn places and sometimes make huge changes in the game’s world.â€
Ziemak said that the studio believed it important to show the player the consequences of their actions instead of simply offering up a slideshow or having an NPC tell you what happened.
“It’s not always enough to tell you that someone died because of your choice, we want to show you those consequences,†Ziemak said.
“We may have to create twice as much content, but then, there’s twice as much fun.â€
Ziemak’s comments come hot on the heels of criticism leveled against BioWare for the ending to Mass Effect 3.
