We have a new rumor about the PlayStation 6.

KeplerL2 has been sharing insider information about the upcoming console in the past few months. Last month, he surprised everyone by claiming that the console would not have ‘full RDNA 5’.
Today, we have a new set of rumors about PS6’s features and Sony’s plans. KeplerL2 now claims that the console will launch with 1 TB SSD, and no optical drive.
KeplerL2 argues that the optical drive is the most obvious area to cut costs. Subsequently, he speculates that if the console supports neural texture compression, it could have smaller game downloads than the PS5.
While KeplerL2 makes the case that a digital only PS6 will be convenient, many fans will obviously be upset that Sony could be planning to leave physical media. Gamers who decided Nintendo’s Game-Key Cards were the final straw will certainly have to rethink that decision.
But we would argue the issue for physical media advocates is the lack of an optical disc upgrade. The 4K Blu-Ray format is already a decade old and Sony and other tech companies have not invented a successor to match or outdo SSDs.
