GTA Online Gets New Background Upgrade

January 9, 2026 by Ryan Parreno

Good to see GTA Online continue to get support.

Rockstar has published a new background update for GTA Online.

This is the first update for the year, and the latest since they published A Safehouse In The Hills.

A Background Update Means You Don’t Have To Manually Update!

Players usually don’t even have to think about background updates. These updates are handled on the server side.

In other words, Rockstar updated the data from their end. The players themselves don’t have to do anything and they’ll just get the changes.

The biggest change in this update is that Rockstar has ‘fixed’ the latest version of god mode.

There were older versions of god mode that made players unkillable and put them off radar. This new version was activated by landing a helicopter in a mansion helipad.

Rockstar also removed an error that let players stay invincible after leaving the Mission Creator’s test mode.

While fans may miss these OP glitches, it’s still great to see Rockstar continues to support GTA Online.
