Divinity Reveal Was Kept Secret From PlayStation & Xbox

December 16, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

A lot of people were kept in the dark until The Game Awards.

Before The Game Awards kicked off, there was one big tease going around online. Everyone was wondering what the statue in the Mojave Desert was. It was this odd statue that popped up and was connected to an upcoming video game reveal during The Game Awards. However, that was about all we knew, with fans guessing which franchise it was connected to. The guessing finally came to a halt during The Game Awards when it was unveiled that the statue was connected to an upcoming game from Larian Studios, Divinity.

The Divinity series has been around for quite a while, and that was the franchise the team decided to tap back into after Baldur’s Gate 3. Of course, with as much success as Larian Studios found with Baldur’s Gate 3, there is some newfound attention on the studio, eager to dig into whatever they have been cooking up next. But what might surprise you is just how few people knew about this game reveal coming into The Game Awards.

Divinity Reveal Was Kept Secret From PlayStation & Xbox

We know very little about the game. The trailer showcased some really mature themes for this game, which are on par with what you would expect from the franchise. But again, with so many players now tuned into Larian Studios with Baldur’s Gate 3 being their first real game experienced by this team, it might have been a real surprise. However, even those deeply connected to the industry, such as PlayStation and Xbox, were not clued in to what the development team was working on.

Speaking with VGC, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke noted that they didn’t say anything to either company before The Game Awards. They were surprised, just as almost everyone who managed to avoid the leak was. If you didn’t catch it, there was a leak from a trademark that spoiled the fun ahead of The Game Awards, revealing that the statue was connected to Divinity.

The platforms didn’t know the game existed until The Game Awards. They just found out, so we still have to go and talk to them, so it was a fun reveal for them too. We really wanted to keep it a secret, which is really a pity that the leak happened.

It was really cool to see that the audience was engaged with the Hellstone. It really was a lot of fun. We know, obviously, what every single thing on that stone means, which we will reveal over time. It would have been cooler if it had remained a secret.

So, because neither PlayStation nor Xbox knew about Divinity, it was a wonder whether we’ll see the game land on the platforms. We imagine conversations will be happening soon now that The Game Awards have concluded. As for the game itself, again, we don’t know much at the moment. We’ll have to see what the studio has cooking up for players and whether there are any expectations that players know some of the IP’s lore for this upcoming game.
