Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Might Be Out Sooner Than You Think

December 15, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Don’t get too caught up in the release window says the game director.

For a lot of Star Wars fans, we have been waiting for something to come from that fabled remake announcement for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. That game was a massive hit when it was released and is still a cherished Star Wars game today. However, the RPG that so many fans have been waiting for its remake mainly sits in hiatus. We haven’t seen anything in a long time, but there is some good news here to share. I’m sure you all are familiar with Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic by now.

During this year’s The Game Awards, it was a big reveal when Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was showcased to the masses. Developed by Arcanaut Studios, this is another RPG title that serves as a spiritual successor to the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. Likewise, it has a very notable name attached to it, which has so many fans excited for its eventual release. That name is Casey Hudson.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Development Won’t Take Too Long

Don’t worry about the “not till 2030” rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger! https://t.co/YKYQFgXOGR

One of the big reveals from that ceremony was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, but many fans assumed it would be a long way from release. The rumor was that this was a new AAA game early into development, and we wouldn’t likely see it until at least 2030. That seems not to be the case, according to Casey Hudson. Casey is the cofounder of Arcanaut Studios and is the game director behind this upcoming title.

If you’re not familiar, Casey had directed the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect games. So he’s got quite the resume for big RPG experiences. Taking to X, Casey noted not to listen to the 2030 rumors, and the game will be out before then. So we might be in a very good place with the project right now, despite it being early in development.

With Casey having ties to the franchise roots, it’s likely there’s already a story in mind and some ideas fleshed out before development officially began. Maybe that’s got Casey Hudson feeling rather optimistic about the game’s release, but we’ll just have to wait and find out. There’s not much out there about this upcoming title yet, so hopefully we’ll hear more about it in 2026. But for now, if you haven’t already caught the announcement trailer yourself, you can find it embedded above.
